IN ADDITION TO MY BLOG, I’M ALSO A CONTRIBUTOR FOR ENTREPRENEUR AND THRIVE GLOBAL | CHECK THEM OUT & KEEP READING!

You just published a blog post that is value-adding and a worthwhile read, but it’s not driving any organic traffic to your site.

As long as you create great content, visitors will follow. Or so they say. I hate to burst your bubble, but just because you are creating great content does not mean search engines will automatically take notice.

Backlink-building is one of the best strategies to gain domain authority and boost organic traffic. And gone are the days when all types of backlinks brought a good impact on search engine optimization. In today’s SEO strategies, you need to build high-quality backlinks from authority blogs and news sites.

But not all businesses start on equal footing when backlink-building. Getting backlinks seems so out of reach for most new businesses -but this doesn’t mean it is not at all doable.

What is a backlink?

Backlinks are created when a website links to another. Search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing use backlinks as a ranking signal because when a website features another site, it means the content is noteworthy. When your content is backlinked, it signals to search engines that other websites vouch for your website’s content.

How do backlinks work?

It is basically like a conversation among different websites.

For example, as I blog about backlinks, I can link a similar article by Entrepreneur.com while sharing my thoughts on the subject (like how I just created a backlink to Entrepreneur’s post).

Earning backlinks to your content is an integral component of off-site SEO, as it can positively affect your site’s ranking position and visibility. The process of getting these links is known as link-building.

It is also important to note that some backlinks are more valuable than others. Backlinks from established, high-authority websites are considered more desirable, while those from low-authority websites are deemed spammy. Even just being mentioned on high-authority sites can give your brand a boost (like the boost I got when Verde was featured on Forbes!).

How to get backlinks

Building backlinks to your website takes time, patience, and effort. Here are simple ways to get backlinks for your site:

LINK IN THE BIO: ADD YOUR WEBSITE LINK TO YOUR SOCIALS

Don’t skip on the basics – your own social media profiles. Check all social media platforms you are currently using and make sure they have a working link to your website. Also, make sure you share content from your website across your social media profiles so your readers can also easily share them.

WRITE GUEST POSTS

Write blogs for other websites! This is also an effective way of getting backlinks to your website in exchange for an article. People often place links in the author’s bio or to a related keyword or phrase.

CREATE LIST ARTICLES

List posts (also called listicles) can sometimes generate more backlinks than other popular content formats, like videos and infographics. List articles are well-loved because of their brevity – these short and sweet articles are gold on the Internet.

WRITE ULTIMATE GUIDE POSTS

You can never go wrong with highly-researched content, as they provide detailed, credible information. Most successful blogs spend a lot of time creating thoroughly-researched content backed by studies and provide fresh content. Credible content attracts tons of backlinks and catches the attention of high-authority websites.

Your strategy should be to produce content that highlights your expertise. Show readers that you are an authority in your niche, that everything you put out there is accurate, trustworthy, and backed by factual data.

EXPLORE INFLUENCER MARKETING

Working with influencers gives you a good chance of generating natural backlinks for your site, as they are more likely to have a website of their own or have access to several popular websites.

An influencer sharing your link also increases your chances of having other people reshare your link. As your article or site gains popularity, there is also a good chance that higher-authority websites will pick up on it and link you to their site.

ENGAGE AND BUILD RELATIONSHIPS

With an increase in social networking, it is essential to build your relationships. You have to build relationships with the right people if you want your brand to grow. To gain high-quality backlinks, you have to start focusing on building relationships with those producing link-worthy content.

Having good relationships attracts links to your website (given you are already publishing high-value content). Follow them on social media, comment on their blog posts, and exchange ideas.

Link-building is an unavoidable step in improving your online presence and it will make your website much more interesting for your target audience. Make sure you are following only the latest and most effective strategies and techniques!
